Objectives

Among the human cellular channels which are able to recognize ROS, the Transient Receptor Potential Subfamily A (TRPA1) is of particular interest, due to its potential role in inflammatory processes. The main objective of this project was to investigate the involvement of TRPA1 channels within the ROS-mediated pro-inflammatory signalling pathways in airway epithelial cells, upon infection with P. aeruginosa. The project was carried out on several airway epithelial cell lines and primary culture of bronchial epithelial cells, derived from patients affected by CF and from healthy subjects; these cells were stimulated by P. aeruginosa infection and ROS sources, in order to mimic the CF lung pathology condition.
