Valeria Tomati earned a Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences and a Ph.D. in Internal Medicine (Oncology) from the University of Genoa. Currently holding a permanent position as a Healthcare Researcher (Ricercatore Sanitario), she works in the Unit of Medical Genetics at the IRCCS Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa, Italy.
Dr. Tomati’s research focuses primarily on cystic fibrosis, with a strong emphasis on CFTR biology, disease-causing mutations (including rare and orphan variants), and the development of precision medicine strategies. Combining cellular biology with patient-derived models, Dr. Tomati’s work encompasses preclinical and translational research, including the biochemical and functional characterization of CFTR modulators, folding and trafficking defects, and patient theratyping using primary human epithelial cells.
To date, Valeria Tomati has co-authored 49 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, 6 of them as first author.
