Developed skills and lines of research
Since 2009, Charles Pilette has been Chef de clinique associé in the Department of Pneumology at UCL St-Luc in Brussels. Since 2012, he has been a Full Professor. He leads a research group consisting of 11 members, including PhD and post-doctoral researchers. For the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation, together with Virginia De Rose from the University of Turin, he studied susceptibility to CF-related bronchial infections, which may also be linked to an immune deficiency (alteration of the secretory IgA immunoglobulin system). The findings could pave the way for a new therapeutic approach
Projects funded by FFC Ricerca as Principal Investigator or as Research Manager

Impaired secretory IgA and mucosal immunity in cystic fibrosis: contribution to lung pathology and impaired defence against bacterial infection, and role of CFTR-related epithelial changes in the regulation of the receptor-mediated IgA transcytosis
