Developed skills and lines of research

Emanuela Pesce has been working since 2011 in the Medical Genetics Laboratory at the G. Gaslini Institute, where she carries out research focused on cystic fibrosis (CF). In 2015, she obtained her PhD in Genetics from the University of Genoa with a thesis dedicated to developing innovative strategies for correcting the basic defect in CF. She has a strong background in high-throughput screening of chemical compound libraries using functional and biochemical assays on cells. She is recognized for her expertise in the theratyping of orphan, rare, and ultra-rare mutations, as well as in evaluating responses to CFTR modulators in patient-derived primary airway cells. Within the Airway Epithelial Cells for Theranostics Working Group of the ECFS, she has played a central role in developing standardized protocols to support personalized therapeutic strategies and in coordinating the training of researchers from various European centers.
