Developed skills and lines of research

Paola Bruni graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of Florence, and she pursued her career at the same university, undertaking her scientific training at the Laboratory of Cellular Metabolism at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA, headed by Dr Martha Vaughan, as a CNR research fellow in 1983 and 1984.
A full professor of Biochemistry since 2000, she served as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of MFN Sciences from 2006 to 2008, Dean of the Faculty from 2010 to 2013, and President of the School of MFN Sciences from 2013 to 2016.
She served as the Rector’s delegate for staff and resource planning from 2015 to 2021. She has been Professor Emerita since 2025. Her scientific work has focused on the mechanisms of membrane signal transduction, with particular regard to the role of sphingolipid molecules; in this field, she has held positions within the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Federation of European Biochemical Societies.
She is currently a member of the FFC Ricerca Scientific Committee.
