Developed skills and lines of research
Michael Pusch is a physicist by training, and he obtained his PhD in Natural Sciences at the Max-Planck-Institut für Biophysikalische Chemie in Göttingen under the supervision of Walter Stühmer, following his undergraduate thesis under Erwin Neher. Since 2007, he has been a Senior Research Fellow at the CNR Institute of Biophysics in Genoa, which he directed from 2013 to 2017.
His scientific work focuses on the biophysics of ion channels and membrane transporters, with pioneering contributions to the study of the CLC family, sodium and potassium channels, and volume-regulated anion channels. His research has elucidated the molecular mechanisms underlying neurological, neuromuscular, renal and inner ear disorders, as well as the role of ion channels in cancer.
He is the author of over 170 publications, including original articles and reviews, and is a member of international editorial and scientific committees; since 2024, he has been a member of the FFC Ricerca Scientific Committee.
