Developed skills and lines of research

Marco Mergiotti earned his bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Teramo and his master’s degree in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Turin. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Molecular Biotechnology and Health Sciences at the University of Turin, where he completed his PhD under the supervision of Alessandra Ghigo and Emilio Hirsch.
His research focuses on the cellular mechanisms that regulate the trafficking, stability and function of CFTR to identify new strategies to complement cystic fibrosis therapies.
In recent years, with the support of FFC Ricerca, he has participated in national and international conferences dedicated to cystic fibrosis, including meetings of the European Cystic Fibrosis Society (ECFS), presenting the results of his research and receiving recognition from the scientific community.
The support from FFC Ricerca has also contributed to the development of projects that led, in 2026, to the publication in JCI Insight of the study identifying PKD1 as a new regulator of CFTR.
