Developed skills and lines of research
Giulia Maule is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Trento, working in the Molecular Virology laboratory at the Department of Cellular, Computational, and Integrative Biology (CIBio), directed by Anna Cereseto.
After earning her degree in Biotechnology in 2014 from the University of Trento, she completed a master’s degree in Cellular Sciences and Molecular Biotechnology at the same university in 2016. She then pursued a Ph.D. in Biomolecular and Biomedical Sciences between the University of Leuven, Belgium, and the University of Trento.
Her doctoral research focused on developing a novel gene therapy strategy to address rare genetic mutations in cystic fibrosis using CRISPR-Cas technology. This work led to a publication titled “Allele-specific repair of splicing mutations in cystic fibrosis through AsCas12a genome editing”, featured in Nature Communications, and earned her and her research team the Klosterfrau Award in 2020.
Currently, her research continues in the field of gene editing for cystic fibrosis treatment, exploring new delivery methods specific for the disease.
