Developed skills and lines of research

Sheref S. Mansy obtained his bachelor’s degree in microbiology and his PhD in biochemistry at Ohio State University (United States), where he specialised in the bioinorganic chemistry of metalloproteins. He subsequently conducted his research at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, where his work focused on the origins of life and on protocells, the precursors of the first cells. After teaching at the University of Alberta (Canada) from 2019 to 2024, he moved his research to Italy: he is currently a professor of biochemistry at the University of Trento, where he is working on new methods to deliver gene-editing therapies to the lungs. His work focuses on the design of innovative lipids capable of transporting therapeutic tools directly to lung cells via aerosols.
