Developed skills and lines of research

Onofrio Laselva is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine at the University of Foggia.
After completing his studies at the University of Bari, he worked in Professor Margarida Amaral’s laboratory in Lisbon. In 2017, he began his PhD in Functional and Applied Genomics and Proteomics at the University of Bari. During his PhD, he spent a year at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto (Canada), in Professor Christine Bear’s laboratory, investigating the mechanism of action of CFTR modulators.
He subsequently undertook his postdoctoral research there, focusing on personalised therapy using nasal epithelial cells and intestinal organoids derived from pluripotent stem cells from people with cystic fibrosis.
His research combines approaches from pathophysiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology to investigate the role of infection, inflammation and oxidative stress in the efficacy of CFTR modulators.
