Developed skills and lines of research

Francesco Imperi is Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Science, Roma Tre University, and head of the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology and Microbiomics at IRCCS Fondazione Santa Lucia, Rome, Italy. He received his PhD in Biological Sciences from Roma Tre University. He has been FEMS and EMBO Short-Term Research Fellow at the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Nottingham, UK, and Assistant Professor in Microbiology at the Charles Darwin Department of Biology and Biotechnology at Sapienza University of Rome. His main research interests include the identification and development of novel antibacterial compounds, the study of genetic determinants and molecular mechanisms underlying antibiotic resistance, the identification and characterization of essential genes, the study of cell envelope biogenesis in gram-negative bacteria, and the development of bacterial biosensors for the identification of antivirulence and antibiofilm drugs. He is co-author of over 80 papers published in international scientific journals and 4 patents.
