Developed skills and lines of research

Sjoerd Hak is a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Biotechnology and Nanomedicine at SINTEF in Trondheim, Norway. Following a MSc (with great appreciation) in Biomedical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands in 2007, he earned his PhD in Medical Technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2013. Since 2013, he held research positions in the Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging and the Department of Physics at NTNU. In 2019, he joined SINTEF while maintaining an affiliation to NTNU in which he has been supervising multiple PhD- and MSc-students. His research is driven by a fascination for the complex interactions between man-made nanoparticles and biology. At SINTEF he develops novel small molecule drug formulations and nucleic acid-based nanoformulations, leveraging the institute’s cutting-edge infrastructure and broad expertise in (nano)medicine synthesis, production, and physicochemical, in vitro, and in vivo characterization.
