Developed skills and lines of research

Giovanni Delogu has earned an MS in Biology and a Specialization in Microbiology and Virology and a PhD in Microbiology. He is Full Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the Department of Medicine and Surgery, University of Parma.
He is Director of the Microbiology and Virology Unit at the University Hospital of Parma.
His main research interests are aimed at investigating host-mycobacteria interaction; the molecular and functional characterization of virulence factors of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and other mycobacteria; the study of the immune response against Mtb, the development of immunological diagnostic tools with prognostic value; the development and evaluation of new vaccines against TB; the evaluation of host-directed therapy strategies against Mtb and non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
He is engaged in research into the role of microorganisms and viruses in the development of tumours and diseases with complex aetiologies.
He is currently President of the Italian Society of Microbiology.
