Developed skills and lines of research
Giulia Degiacomi graduated in Biotechnology and obtained her PhD in Genetics and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Pavia in 2012. She worked as a researcher at Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovak Republic). She returned to Italy as a post-doc researcher in 2013, first to Padua for three years, then to the University of Pavia, where she has been an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the ‘Lazzaro Spallanzani’ Department of Biology and Biotechnology since 2024.
Mycobacteria are the central focus of her research, and she has studied in depth their mechanisms of action and resistance to various pharmacological molecules. In the field of cystic fibrosis, she has helped to identify VOMG, a promising compound against M. abscessus, and is committed to finding innovative therapeutic solutions to combat infections caused by this bacterium.
She is the author of 46 papers and holds one international patent jointly with FFC Ricerca.
