Developed skills and lines of research
Valeria Capurro is a researcher at the Medical Genetics Unit of the IRCCS Giannina Gaslini Institute. She obtained a Master’s degree in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and a PhD in Genetics from the University of Genoa.
Since 2016, she has been conducting research into cystic fibrosis as part of projects funded by the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation, the European Commission (Horizon 2020), the Ministry of Health and international organisations.
Since 2023, she has been head of the Primary Culture Service at the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation. Her work focuses on the development of cellular models for personalised medicine and on the functional assessment of the CFTR protein. As part of the ECFS Airway Epithelial Cells for Theranostics Working Group, she has played a central role in the development and standardisation of protocols for personalised therapies and in the training of researchers at leading European centres specialising in cystic fibrosis.
