Developed skills and lines of research
Daria Bottai has graduated in Biology, and she obtained a Specialization in Microbiology and Virology and a PhD in Microbiology and Genetics at the University of Pisa. Now she is an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the same university.
Bottai has extensive experience in mycobacterial genomics/gene editing and in ex vivo/in vivo models for mycobacterial infections, acquired through different postdoctoral stays at the Institut Pasteur in Paris.
Her main research topics include the development of novel anti-mycobacterial strategies and the design of new anti-tuberculosis vaccines. She is principal investigator in research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Research, the European Union and the Gates Foundation. She is a member of the Italian Society of General Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology, the Italian Society of Microbiology, and the research groups “Live attenuated Vaccine” and “The Collaboration for TB Vaccine Discovery” (Gates Foundation).
