Developed skills and lines of research

Tracey Bonfield received her undergraduate degree in chemistry and biology from John Carroll University (Ohio, USA). She earned her master’s degree in experimental pathology in 1987 and her doctorate of philosophy in immunopathology in 1991 from Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Bonfield received The American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology Certification in 2006. She has authored or co-authored 53 publications, 5 book chapters and several abstracts.
She is currently an Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University (Ohio, USA), where she is also Director of the new Master of Science programme in Regenerative Medicine and Entrepreneurship (RGME).
Her research focuses on mechanisms that promote chronic inflammation, with and without the co-morbid presence of infection; in particular, in cystic fibrosis (CF), she focused on the basic biology of a defective chloride channel, and she examined macrophage biology in the context of the inability of people with CF to manage their susceptibility to ubiquitous pathogens, often associated with immune deficiency diseases.
