Developed skills and lines of research
Giovanna Batoni received her degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Pisa in 1987. In 1993 she obtained a PhD degree in “Experimental Oncology and Tumor Morphology”. In 1992 she was a visiting fellow at the Laboratory of Immunopathology at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. Between 1993 and 1996, she was a post-Doc at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pisa and, at the same time, a visiting fellow at the “Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control” and the “Microbiology and Tumour Biology Center” of the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
From 1996 to 2001, she was Assistant and then, since 2001, Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the University of Pisa. Since 2019 she has been Full Professor in the same discipline.
Her research activities include the area of microbiology and virology, host-pathogen interaction, immunology and infectious diseases. She has been a holder or participant in numerous research projects funded by national and international institutions. She is currently an associate editor of the journal Frontiers in Microbiology, a member of the Editorial board of the journals Antibiotics and International Journal of Molecular Sciences, and has authored or co-authored 92 papers in international peer-review journals.
