Developed skills and lines of research

Massimo Aureli received his MS degree in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Milan in 2006, and his PhD in Biochemistry from the same university in 2009.

Since 2017, he has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Translational Medicine, University of Milan.

In the field of cystic fibrosis research, thanks to the collaboration with Dr. Tamanini, Dr. Dechecchi and Dr. Cabrini from the University of Verona, he studied the possible role of non-lysosomal beta-glucosylceramidase GBA2 and its involvement in the inflammatory response to Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PAO), in CF bronchial epithelial cells. These studies were awarded at the 11th Meeting of Young European CF Investigators, Paris. In this context, collaborating with biophysics, he developed lipid-based nanoparticles for siRNA delivery against GBA2, potentially used as anti-inflammatory agents.
