Developed skills and lines of research

Antonella Mencacci has been a full professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Perugia since 2019, where she directs the Section of Medical Microbiology. Since 2015, she has held the post of Director of the Complex Unit of Microbiology at Perugia Hospital Trust, the reference laboratory for the Umbria Region. She was the Director of the Postgraduate School in Microbiology and Virology from 2020 to 2025. As the representative of full professors on the Academic Senate since 2025 and a member of the National Commission for Scientific Qualification, Mencacci coordinates regional programmes for genomic surveillance and the fight against antibiotic resistance. Her research and clinical work focuses on the introduction of rapid diagnostic technologies, the study of host-microorganism interactions, and the development of diagnostic and antimicrobial stewardship strategies. She collaborates with the Italian National Institute of Health and with the main national networks for the study and control of multi-drug-resistant pathogens.
She is currently a member of the FFC Ricerca Scientific Committee.
