Developed skills and lines of research
Margarida D. Amaral is Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisboa (Portugal) and group leader of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Research Lab at BioISI research centre, which she founded. Her lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of CF using transcriptomics, proteomics, and high-throughput screens, with a recent focus on CF-related cancer. She published 195 scientific articles, edited 3 books, filed 4 patents and has regular consulting activities with industry. She is a top 2% Highly Cited Researcher since 2020 (Mendeley, University of Stanford) and #2 in Portugal for Cell Biology.
An EMBL-European Molecular Biology Laboratory and IGC-Gulbenkian Institute of Science alumna, she is a member of EMBO-European Molecular Biology Organization and of the Lisboa Academy of Sciences and the Scientific Delegate for Portugal at EMBO Council. She has received prestigious prizes, including the European CF Society Annual Award and the Pfizer Award (Portugal). She held a visiting professorship at Campinas University (Brazil) and currently at Shanghai University (China).
