Meconium ileus (MI) is recognized as a risk factor for poor outcome in Cystic Fibrosis patients both in terms of growth and respiratory function. But recent international experiences showed that also MI patients can reach good growth and respiratory function so as the majority of CF screened infants do. There are no study about clinical status of Italian CF patients presenting with MI at birth. The main aim of this project is to identify risk factors associated to poor clinical outcomes in the first year of life in MI infants. A retrospective multicenter survey will be organized including infants born in the years 2009-2014, presenting neonatal intestinal obstruction and diagnosed as CF before 30.6.2015, recruited in CF care Centres. Clinical and surgical data will be collected and analyzed. When the main risk factors for poor clinical outcomes (poor growth, early Pseudomonas infection) will be identified, action to define the best care practice and improve patients outcomes will be planned. Based on the project results recommendation for CF Centers and Neonatal surgeons as regard the diagnostic/ therapeutic protocols in CF infants with neonatal obstruction will be conceived.
