Objectives

Resolvin D1 (RvD1is an endogenous chemical mediator produced from the omega-3 fatty acid DHA via enzymatic reactions, able to stimulate the resolution of inflammation and the regeneration of damaged tissue. It was shown effective in treating chronic inflammatory diseases in animal models, but not specifically in CF. The aim of the project is to determine if RvD1 reduces chronic lung inflammation and tissue damage caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in CF animals and if it stimulates injury repair on human CF cells. This research will assess actions of RvD1 relevant for CF, providing evidence for future clinical studies to test RvD1 in CF patients.
